3 Historic Dances For Your Classroom and Your Stage
to inspire new possibilities for your school year
Ragtime dances have captivated me since my grandmother pounded out rollicking Irving Berlin tunes on her piano - what rhythm, what fun! For next month’s workshop Dance for Adolescence at the MOVE24 conference, I’m sure to include one or two. And some other dances, too, maybe risky polka variations, maybe a playful vintage waltz mixer, certainly some rowdy bransles, all perfect for adolescents.
While immersing myself in old favorites, an incoming question from a colleague sent me researching deep into my archives, bringing back to light three historic dances to share with you this week. If you are working with tweens and teens, any and all of these might enhance your lessons. Math, geometry, music, history, PE all can come alive with movement.
Abbots Bromley Horn Dance - Ancient Ritual
Bransles - Playful Medieval Dances
Longsword Dances - Some of the Oldest Dances in History
In the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more for the upcoming programs at the conference September 20-22, 2024. Read more, see the program schedule, and register here:
Happy dancing!
