Welcome to The Movement Academy by me, Valerie Baadh Garrett (and some special guests.) I am a somatic movement therapist, movement educator, and movement artist. I help people move with insights, research and deep dives into unique aspects of human movement at different stages of life. I am also practicing how to write about movement.
I used to be a dancer, training in elite, nearly impossible movements. As a mom with kids in a Waldorf school I became a Spacial Dynamics® movement teacher for all grades K-12 and a member of a “care committee” for students with challenges in the classroom (remedied by movement, of course) which led to becoming a therapeutic guide to movement for all ages. How a child learns to walk, how one moves in everyday life, how a fragile adult stands up from a chair, how movement helps people with autism: all became more interesting than how to polish a grand tour en l’air.
Whether it’s your own movement, or that of ones you love, teach, or take care of, The Movement Academy shares best practices for healthy moves in every day life.
I’m starting off my free SubStack newsletter with some of my most popular posts from our Movement Academy Project archives, while writing new ones.
