Need a lift? How about a little dancing?
While staying close to home, I still need to dance but I’m not ready for dancing face-to-face in West Coast Swing, my new aspiration. Last year, I actually took a live class with Sacramento Ballet, once, which triggered some love/hate flashbacks. Since then, I’ve been exploring the wonders of tech with Zoom classes for a variety of dance styles.
Here are three that are fun and uplifting that I highly recommend for you, with or without dance experience or training, without reservation.
Saturday, March 12 Workshop - A Dance Gathering with Joan Walton
Joan is such a sparkling teacher and dancer, and her workshops in a variety of styles of vintage dance are accessible (easy enough) for everyone. Saturday’s program is sponsored by Lexington Vintage Dance and is free. Joan starts at 9:30amPT with one of her famous warm-ups that I first encountered at Stanford Swing Camp, followed by workshops in line dancing (easy to do on your own) in swing, waltz, and cha-cha. I’ll be there! Here’s full info and registration link.
Wednesday Class - International Folk Dance with Patricia Campbell
I couldn’t believe an online folk dance class would work, but it does, and I love it. Patricia has gathered a nice international group for a friendly and fun hour of folk dances from around the world, including Ukraine. The dances and music are delightful, and it was easy and fun to follow along. For all ages.
Live on Wednesday mornings, 8amPT (except 3/16 when it will be at 12pmPT). Contact Patricia to get on her invite list at countrydancecaller@gmail.com.
Move Assure - Dance for Wellbeing
Such a fun, dance-for-wellness program and app, with a bunch of 15 minute progressive sessions that are easy to follow, engaging, and uplifting. Great music and presentation with Dr. Peter Lovatt (science) and Dame Darcey Bussell (dance). Wonderful for a mood and energy boost. I love Peter and his upbeat tone and follow him on Twitter @DrPeterLovatt , where he cracked me up the other day with his “woodchuck” dance. He also has some great TEDtalks.
Happy dancing! Let me know if you’re joining a class and I’ll try to meet you there.
Dancingly, Valerie
